(More customer reviews)I've had my eye on this watch for a while and finally bought it a month or so ago from Amazon. It was delivered to my door in 2 days (I'm a prime member), so, extremely happy with the service from Amazon.

The watch itself is a work of art - classic, elegant and masculine. The size of the dial is perfect - neither an oversized monstrosity nor a super-slim flimsy looking piece. The dial's metal casing is a subdued gunmetal-ish color, not the flashy metallic look that you sometimes find.

The watch face is just beautiful. In my opinion, one of top 3 faces in classic watches under 10,000 dollars (my other two favorites being the Omega Speedmaster Professional and the Rolex Submariner). The black, silver and white on the face just work together in perfect harmony (though the blue dial is no slouch either).

I got the plain leather band since I'm not a big fan of the alligator skin finish in leather bands though I can see how this is definitely a preference thing. One of the best things about this watch is that it looks as good with a suit as it does with a tee and jeans - its one of those few watches that spans the divide well.

Overall, a timeless piece that I'm sorry I didnt buy sooner. Add in the great shopping experience from Amazon and this is one happy customer.

(More customer reviews)After combing different websites and Authorized dealers, as well as having prior Tag's, I have a decent sense of what Tag Heuer has to offer, as well as different price points.I was looking to upgrade to something in the one thousand to 1.5 thousand price range, and this watch was on the short list.I decided on this one because of Amazon's 5 yr warranty, automatic movement (which frequently runs $2K+), and slick, refined looks.

Definitely wanted something that wasn't too bulky, but still was relatively masculine.Just a few things that I can share with all:

PRO's:
-nice bracelet, and very adjustable (with a micro adjustment in the clasp)
-automatic movement at a decent price
-waterproof to 200m
-bracelet doesn't catch any hairs
-simple, elegant design to dress up or down

CON's:
-needs a break-in period (I almost returned mine, but you need to wear it for 2 weeks straight to get all the automatic mechanisms lubricated)
- +/- a few seconds a day
-Not a chronometer (which is "certified") - but this adds hundreds of dollars more at ? benefit
-the edge of the face/bezel is a polished metal, and I can envision it getting scratched (so, if you are rough on your watches, you might want to pick a style with a rotating bezel to "protect" the face)
-the LINK bracelet is tough to adjust by yourself, so you need to go to a jeweler/watch store to adjust it
-as with all automatics you need to wear it at least once every 2-3 days (or wind it up every 2 days) to keep from having to reset the time

Another tip - during the break in period, make sure you wind up the watch (turn clockwise) when you first get it, and perhaps another time or two during the first week - this gave it an extra oomph to get things going.

(More customer reviews)I was really not a fan of the Link series -- but one day tried it out in the store and bought it right there. A few points...

The watch comes as shown or as a chronograph. The watch comes with or without (as shown) a rotating bezel. Old version of this watch actually have (big) numbers at 6, 9, and 12. I think the combination of being not a chronograph, no numbers, and no rotating bezel makes this a very elegant watch.

The picture does not do this watch justice. The background color on the watch changes color (slightly) depending on how the lights hits it. It really looks nice.

The bracelet does not have any exposed pins on top or sides holding the link to the watch, or link to link. It is amazing how it is held together.

Other points to consider...

The watch comes as a quatz, automatic, or chronometer. I believe the chronometer is simply an automatic that has been certified. There may be other changes as I am not sure. My watch is an automatic.

The watch comes as either water resistent to 100 meters or 200 meters. Not likely anyone who actually dive to 100 meters, but interesting nontheless. My watch is to 200 meters.

There are other colors. I looked at all of this in the store, and chose black.

(More customer reviews)This watch is an automatic, meaning that it contains a mechanical movement powered by the action of the wearer's wrist. Some mechanical movements must be wound manually by the user. Neither type require a battery as a quartz watch would. The payoff is that all mechanical watches, however much they might cost, are less accurate than any quartz watch one might buy for $20 from a local garage. The reason that one might pay upwards of $1000 for such a watch is that the movement is a precise, finely engineered example of the watchmaker's craft, and not a simple piece of electronics produced by the millions as might be found in a cheap Casio (to take nothing away from Casio).

The highest quality automatic watches are known as 'chronometers', and must contain a movement that has passed a rigorous set of tests laid down by the Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (www.cosc.ch). Such a movement will have an accuracy of 99.99%, which is the maximum obtainable. Only 3% of all watches produced in Switzerland each year are certified as chronometers. Briefly, the COSC standard states that a certified movement must be accurate to within -4/+6 seconds per day. Most high-quality mechanical watches can be adjusted by a good watchmaker to meet that level of accuracy. As far as I am aware, this movement (a Tag-modified ETA 2824-2 for the technically inclined) is not COSC certified; however, this does not mean that it cannot meet the standard, but simply that Tag Heuer have not submitted it for testing.

Even chronometer-certified movements are still less accurate than a quartz watch. This is not a problem specific to Tag Heuer, but is common to any mechnical watch, whether it be from Rolex, Omega, Breitling or any other manufacturer. Even Omega's new co-axial movement is not designed to increase accuracy, but rather stability over time. Stability is often considered to be a more desirable characteristic than pure accuracy in a mechanical timepiece (which is in any case impossible); that is, that it constantly gains 6 seconds a day, rather than gaining one day and losing time the next.

Many people (and websites) confuse chronometers with chronographs. A chronograph is a watch that has extra functions and displays allowing the timing of individual events, similar to a stopwatch. This watch is not a chronograph.

When buying an expensive watch, or any other valuable item, it pays to do a small amount of research and understand what exactly it is one is paying for.

I have always been very impressed with the build quality of Tag Heuers; their finishing and reliability is excellent and they are very reasonably priced when compared to other high-grade Swiss watches.

(More customer reviews)I have always liked automatic watches. I own automatic watches from Seiko, Citizen, Invicta and Tag. The Tag is built like a tank. Things I do not like about my CAF2010: Runs a tad faster - gains about 4 minutes every month - I have to reset the time every month, or find myself going early to meetings sometimes when I dont have my blackberry to dictate time. But thats the case with almost any automatic watch. This one's going to be with me for a lifetime. You learn to live with it - if I wanted digital precision, I would've bought a digital watch at a mere one hundredth of the cost of this watch - but its not about that.
